The Rockets led 63-47, just on fire from long range in this second game of the series. Houston would even go up by almost 30 points in the 3rd quarter, before a thunderous Spurs rally would fall short. San Antonio would manage to cut the lead to 5 points, but just couldn't hit the shots they needed. A 3PTer by Chris Paul sealed it.
What made matters worse was Rudy Gay's injury, a high ankle sprain, that will sideline him for the entirety of the playoffs from this point onward. Gay was the main source of the rally too with 16 quick points, so when he went down and stayed down, the crowd fell into an ominous slumber. The Rockets were led by 23 points by "The Beard" and his 6 assists; Chris Paul had 10 points with 13 assists. Clint Capela had a nice double-double, 12 points and 21 rebounds, and Eric Gordon came alive with 18 points on 4-6 three-pointers. Ryan Anderson gave Houston 16 points and 11 rebounds. Gerald Green, recent addition, chipped in 15 points off the bench, giving the Spurs yet another deadly shooter to worry about. Houston's bench dominated 51 to 25 in this game.
Leonard and Mills had 26 points and 21 points with 8 assists, respectively, but it wasn't enough. Biyombo had 13 rebounds, and Gasol had 12 points with 9 rebounds.
Losing Gay will force the Spurs to adjust their rotation, as injuries are never a good thing in the playoffs.
