One Spur Retires, One Spur Returns: A Dynasty Continues

After defeating the Cavaliers once again in the NBA Finals, Manu Ginobili is calling it a career. "I retire with much success from being part of the San Antonio Spurs organization for so many years."

Ginobili says his new focus will be spending more time with his children as they grow up, after storming into the league with his dazzling European style. Coach Popovich and Ginobili initially clashed, but it quickly became clear that Manu's passion on the court was key to winning games. Players today credit Ginobili for being inspired by his Euro-step maneuvers toward the basket. This decision was signaled by Ginobili when he ended his international career for Argentina.

Aiming to lessen the blow, Australian player Patty Mills is returning to the Spurs on a 1 year/8 million deal after playing overseas after being traded in the deal for Tayshaun Prince, who has also retired and won't be returning for another season with San Antonio. Mills brings clutch instincts and a sharp touch from deep. He should also be able to help run the offense if needed. Mills and Ginobli have a strong friendship, so he will bring that energy in Manu's stead.

Returning to the team is Pau Gasol, who had a breakout year with the Spurs in the championship run last season, alongside Kawhi "The Claw" Leonard whose surge into stardom has shocked even most Spurs fans. French big man Joffrey Lauvergne joins the team bringing a solid post game, hustle, passing ability and a decent shooting stroke. Danny Green returns with his marksmanship that the Cavaliers had no answer for in the Finals. Patty Mills will also likely receive a multi-year, lucrative deal.

Josh Smith has also returned on a 2 year/10 million deal with a team option. "J-Smoove"'s defensive talent has kept him a worthy asset for the Spurs, as he will take the place of David Lee.

The youth movement has begun in San Antonio, with the Spurs choosing Dejounte Murray as a point guard prospect. Murray will help an older Tony Parker and Michael Carter-Williams.

Spurs General Manager, RC Buford, has also chosen to call up other youngsters from the D-League, all of them having different talents. Kyle Anderson, for one, is long on defense much like Tayshaun Prince. Bryn Forbes and Davis Bertans are raw shooters, as seen in this year's Summer League performances.

Opening night will see the Spurs taking on the rival Golden State Warriors, after besting them in the Western Conference Finals. This year may prove to belong to the Warriors, but the Spurs defiantly aim to earn a 6th NBA Title in 7 seasons.
